Apect Ratio on Smartboard

Problem:  Installed Smartboard a couple of weeks ago.  Set screen resolution on teacher's computer and it has worked fine since then.  However, this morning, teacher reported her projected image was hanging over the sides of the board.
Solution:  I initially thought it was a problem with the ATI Catalyst Converter - it wasn't.
The teacher had apparently pressed a button on the remote entitled "aspect" (located immediately above the "freeze" button on the remote) and that button changed the aspect ratio on the smartboard.  The fix to the problem was to simply press the "aspect" button until it returned to "normal".  "Normal" will be displayed in the top right hand corner of the Smartboard.
Thanks to Jenny Reed, Pam VanMater and Julie Masterson for sharing this information.

Saving Pixie on N-computing

Saving Pixie for the first time on n-computing machines.
Select SAVE AS under File.
Expand the window by clicking on the "upside down triangle in the circle" next to the place where you name the project.

This is the expanded window that you will see.

Choose the Desktop folder under the K drive.  You cannot initially save to the K drive.
Now choose save on the bottom right side of the “save picture as” window.
The project will be saved in a folder called Desktop that is located in the K:drive, aka ...your class folder.

To find student work under a student log in, go to "My Computer" and look in the K: drive.

To find student work from a teacher log in, go to My Computer and look in the L: drive.  Open your class folder.

Note- These drives can only be seen if the "workstation only" box is unchecked upon log in to Novell.

Unified Messaging

Due to some system problems with the voice mail system, your Unified Messaging will not work until you make the following change. The Unified Messaging is the part of the system that sends you an email message to notify you that you have received a voice mail message and in some cases, lets you listen to voiced mail messages from your email or on your Blackberry.  In order to make the Unified Messaging work, you will need to do the following steps:
1.       Log into Groupwise (email) as you normally would.
2.       At the top, click ACCOUNTS.
3.       Select  ACCOUNT OPTIONS.
4.       In the Accounts screen, double click the CALL EXPRESS Line.
5.       The Call Express Properties dialog box will open.  Click the tab that says SERVER.
6.       The first box in the screen contains the name of your current Incoming Mail server (it is currently avstss).   Change the server name from avstss to  avstcs1.
7.        Go down to the Password field and re-enter your voice mail password (the password you would use if you logged into voice mail from the phone).
8.       Click OK at the bottom of the box.
Your Unified Messaging should now work!

E-scrap

Tracking e-Scrap (School Level - CRS)

Labeling e-Scrap material

To ensure that only eScrap material is removed from a building, eScrap equipment should be marked with an “ES” using a red permanent marker or other appropriate label. This label should be visible and in plain sight and should be placed on the outside case of the machine. Please do not write on the face of the monitor or any other “working” surface.

Storing Equipment & Scanning e-Scrap material into Excel

Equipment heading to eScrap needs to be stored in a secure room/location at the school until Parkway’s Special Assignment crew can pick up the items. Before items are moved to their pick-up location, all the serial numbers from computers, projectors, document cameras, and smart boards must be scanned or hand entered into an Excel Spread Sheet. The spreadsheet should include the serial number and a short description of the item to be removed.

Attach Excel spreadsheet on to Ticket in Ticket System

After all of the equipment has been scanned/entered into the spreadsheet, it is the CRSs responsibility to attach the “To be picked up” spreadsheet to a ticket in the Web Helpdesk.

Mark for disposal in ITAM

The final step for disposing of equipment is to update the building inventory in ITAM. All disposed equipment should have a status of disposed in ITAM. Also place the date the equipment is being disposed in the Notes field in ITAM.

Sign off from CRS

The CRS must sign off that the proper equipment was picked up before the special crew leaves the building.

Lock Workstation

Did you know there are keyboard shortcuts other than CRTL+ALT+DEL that you can use to lock your desktop? Locking the workstation will prevent people from walking up and snooping on your computer. To save a keystroke you can simultaneously press the Windows key and the L key at the same time. The Windows key has four wavy squares.

Or, to make things even easier, create a desktop shortcut.

Right click on the Windows Desktop and select New - Shortcut from the pop up menu.

On the Create Shortcut window, type in the location or copy the following text and paste it into thelocation field, rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation Click Next when done.

Type in a name for the shortcut, for this example I
used Lock Workstation. Click Finish when done.

A new shiny desktop icon!

Bonus Points! Changing the icon pic.

Right click on the desktop shortcut and select Properties from the pop up menu.

Click the Change Icon button.

Click the Browse button.

To browse to the Windows Icon file, make sure you are in the System 32 folder, and find the Shell32.dll file and click on it.

There are hundres of Icons and for this example I’m going to find the icon that looks like a red power button, and click on on it. Then click on OK.

Click Apply and OK.

How about that!
